Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program has challenged high school students (grades 9-12) to share their views on patriotism through a recorded essay. Each year, over 26,400 students compete for more than $1.4 million in scholarships. The national first-place winner earns a $35,000 college scholarship, with state winners receiving at least $1,000 and other national awards ranging from $1,000 to $21,000.

The Patriot’s Pen essay contest invites middle school students (grades 6-8) to write a 300- to 400-word essay on a patriotic theme. Annually, over 60,600 students compete for nearly $1 million in awards. The national first-place winner receives $5,000, and each state winner earns at least $500.
