About VFW Post 12190 – 1LT Sharon A. Lane Memorial Post

Founded in 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) began when Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection veterans united to secure rights and benefits for their service. With no medical care or pensions, these veterans formed what became the VFW, growing from local chapters in Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania to nearly 2 million members nationwide today.

VFW Post 12190, the 1LT Sharon A. Lane Memorial Post in Evans, GA, proudly carries this legacy forward. Named after 1LT Sharon A. Lane, a U.S. Army nurse killed in Vietnam in 1969, our post honors her sacrifice while supporting veterans, their families, and our community. We provide camaraderie, host events like Steak Night, offer hall rentals, and run charity programs to assist local veterans.

The VFW’s national achievements include establishing the Veterans Administration, creating the GI Bill for the 20th and 21st centuries, and advocating for Vietnam and Gulf War veterans’ compensation. We’ve supported memorials for Vietnam, Korea, WWII, Women in Military Service, and the Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial. Our nearly 2 million members and Auxiliaries contribute over 8.6 million volunteer hours annually, provide $3 million in scholarships, and elevate veterans’ issues to the highest levels of government.
